Primarily Pine Lowcountry Furnishings
Tucked away in one of America's oldest seaside areas is Primarily Pine. But don't let the name fool you. Primarily Pine is much, much more than just pine!
This family owned and operated business has been an integral part of the Pawleys Island business community since 1992. Owners Susan and Aubrey Smith have now been joined by their two sons, Matt and Chris. Susan and Chris handle most of the buying, while Matt attends to customer relations, including shipping and local deliveries.
Susan started her business in a corner of Wachesaw Row in Murrells Inlet, where she featured mostly small pine pieces. Today, the ever-expanding business fills a beautiful 4,000-square-foot structure in the heart of Pawleys Island. The Primarily Pine family moved into the Lowcountry style building, designed by Susan with the help of architect Steve Goggins, three years ago.
Growing pains have been felt as the furniture family grew its inventory from small pine pieces to a full-design center with five complete lines of upholstery--offering thousands of fabrics--and about two hundred vendors of numerous products. "We handle one of the few slipcover companies around that offer slipcovers for small chairs to sectionals, as well as great cotton fabrics for the coastal look," says Susan.
"We showcase great case goods, wonderful accessories, artwork, and many, many custom pieces," she adds. "Our staff will gladly research our vendors for that "hard to find" item that customers may have been shopping for and can't find. We also offer varied lines of unusual and special gifts."
The Smith family also owns Pawleys Island Lamps, where lamps are custom made to complement any interior decorating style. Besides the custom designed lamps, the company also handles four or five well-known lamp lines.
"Regularly refreshing our showroom inventory at Primarily Pine creates interest for both first-time and repeat customers, and they will always feel welcome and comfortable without being hurried or rushed to make a selection," Susan continues. "Our custom pieces run the gamut in terms of size, color, and finish in order to meet our customers' desires, and requirements for the correct look and balance in their home."
