I want to live on a Hillside in Tuscany!
Since that doesn’t seem about to happen in the foreseeable future, why not try your hand at Tuscan Décor to give you the feeling of the old world countryside?
Tuscany style decorating incorporates two different looks, Farmhouse and Italian villa decor. We are discussing the simpler Tuscan farmhouse decor, which offers rustic country charm people have come to know and love.
Welcome to the traditional flavors and aromas of Italian rural life. Simple as the Tuscany countryside from which the rich earth colors of terra cotta, olive green, browns, deep reds and gold have evolved. These colors are today's paint colors for the Tuscan look.
There are certain architectural elements that are incorporated into almost every Tuscan home, stone floors, rough textured walls and exposed wooden beams. Since few of us have access to real stone floors, we can duplicate the look by using rustic tile or flagstone on the floor. You might even consider using wide plank wooden floors for a little different effect.
Usually walls are rough textured and once again since this is not always available on the plain wallboard walls that we have in our homes, but we can get the look of Tuscan painting techniques in this simple way: Buy a couple of 5 gallon cans of spackle, add color and spackle away, using a trowel to get the texture you want, it takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, you'll get a great rough textured effect on your walls.
With the consuming interest of food and wine in Tuscany, the kitchen is perhaps the most important room. It's rather easy decorating your kitchen in Tuscany style, put pots of herbs on the windowsill, fill old wicker baskets with fruits and vegetables, have a garlic keep or string of garlic hanging on the wall. Store you wine in an iron wine rack, line up some olive jars on the counter and paint your walls a beautiful Tuscan gold, (remember the color can be mixed in with the spackle technique we mentioned above). And of course, the piece de resistance is a farmhouse table to entertain all your friends, you will then have a true Tuscan look kitchen!
For Tuscany decor in the living room, exposed wood beams certainly add to the look, and if they aren't already there, they can be added to almost any ceiling without too much cost or difficulty. Rustic sconces and of course, Tuscan oil paintings on the wall. Slipcovered sofas are the perfect touch for the casual decorating style you're trying to bring about. Large primitive country furniture pieces complete the look!
Tuscan bedroom decor can include wrought iron beds or wonderful painted wood beds; crisp white linens or floral designs in the rich colors from above complete the feeling.
Incorporating these ideas into your decor will give you the feeling of living in delightful Tuscany. Take a look at our best home furnishings at Primarily Pine and you will be inspired to try your hand at Tuscan decor.
